8th to 9th Grade transitions
Important Dates
- January 6: Parent /Guardian night at South High School, 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Registration Open House. This is an opportunity for students and parents to talk with teachers about the classes being taught, different levels of classes (i.e. Advanced Placement, Dual Credit) and elective class options.
5:30 p.m. Theater presentation for students and parents/guardians
- January 9: South High School counselors visit CBE history classrooms
- January 14 - February 28: Student conferences with parent/guardians and counselors
Program of Studies Course Description
Meeting Sign-Up Information
Each 8th grade student will attend a transition meeting with their assigned school counselor and a parent/guardian. During this meeting, we will review academic progress, discuss career aspirations and use this information to determine classes for high school. Students will select elective classes for, as well as complete a 4-year plan.
Please use the sign-up links below for your student's assigned counselor, to choose a date and time that works best for you as a parent/guardian. Please know that these conferences will be completed during the school day and your student will be called out of class for this meeting. Dates range from January 14 - February 28, 2025.

Mission Statement:
The school counseling program at Carl Ben Eielson Middle School empowers all students to succeed through academic growth, social/emotional development and career awareness. Students will become empathetic, engaged and respectful members of our school and community through the implementation of the comprehensive school counseling program. The school counseling department, with colleagues and other stakeholders, advocates for equity, access and student success while encouraging self-advocacy and accountability for all students.
